FIFA Women's World Cup 2023: 'Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn about “Naija spirit”' - Plumptre

Ashleigh Megan Plumptre is a "Super Falcon" who plays for the Nigeria national women's football team as a defender (centre-back).

She was part of the team that represented Nigeria at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, hosted in Australia and New Zealand.


The tournament is still ongoing, however, Nigeria has been ousted by England on penalties.


England defeated Nigeria 2-4 in a penalty shootout after playing for 120 minutes with no goal.


Plumptre said, she is "Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go deeper into my own identity, learn more about what it means to have “Naija spirit”".

She formerly played for the England youth team, and made her senior debut for Nigeria in February, 2022.


Ashleigh Megan Plumptre was born in Leicestre, England on 8 May, 1998, her grandfather was born in Nigeria.
